Mamelodi Sundowns continues to give back to the community through the Annual Champions Charity Cup, an initiative that was launched in 2022 by the Mamelodi Sundowns Foundation, with the intent to support and empower community-based organizations in South Africa. Last year, the handover of the award occurred on the International Day of Charity and it was no difference this year.

The Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe explained the reason for this initiative and how it ultimately started. He said: “We started the Mamelodi Sundowns Champions Charity Cup in honor of those caregivers and individuals who think of others first. Last year we gave it to the Give Them Hope Foundation because we were made aware of an orphanage and some caregivers who took care of numerous children and did so for a long time from their own funds. We did that to recognize them.”

“For us it’s something that we’ve grown up knowing, that we are nothing without the people around us and the communities that we come from. The opportunity to engage and give back to those who helped us, who made us who we are, is just a principle and a foundation of who we are as a club and thankfully, it’s also based on the model that is set by our club President and the values he has instilled in the team,” the Chairman continued. Mamelodi Sundowns aims to continue to recognize and honor those who go the extra mile to ensure that the community is well-taken care of, through the Championship Charity Cup.
